Living Alone (Together)

Lockdown loneliness.

“There is a lockdown coming and you are single. You don’t have anyone to cuddle with during all those lonely months. What to do? Then you look for a partner in crime so that both can remain mentally healthy. Since flights were already canceled, I was forced to send my new roommate over by mail. Now that she is here we support each other and we share all the little moments of happiness.”

During the pandemic Hanneke Wetzer staged all kinds of domestic and intimate situations of herself with her BFF (best friends forever) Nadiah, where it is not immediately clear that Nadiah is a (sex) doll.

Welcome home, Nadiah!

In my solitude
Never alone
You hold me
In your gaze
I frame you
Carefully
For a snap
Your beauty
Eternal
Fills our space
Your silence
Whimsical
Fills my head
And I know
You will keep
My secrets
Forever
Is this love
Is this love
Is this love
That I'm feelin'?
Or is it just
Your perfect skin?

Netflix & Chill.

During the pandemic Netflix has more than doubled the number of new subscribers it expected in the last three months as more people signed up.

When the pandemic caused a global shift to online, the e-grocery market skyrocketed.

“It’s official: The Netherlands is gripped by a heatwave that could last eight days.”

— KNMI

“Sweeties, this leakage is serious. You are welcome to stay at our place as long as you want, we have room for you.”

— Angelique Spaninks, Director MU Hybrid Arthouse

Move

to MU

Hanneke: “Everything was going great until a serious leakage made our home unlivable. Fortunately, MU Hybrid Art House still had some place we can stay while we wait for the plumbers to fix the leak.”

On 18 September 2020, Hanneke and her doll friend Nadiah moved in to MU Hybrid Art House.

Mambo beach.

Travel organizations in the Netherlands see the number of bookings for a sun holiday on Curaçao increasing considerably.

It is the result of the "negative travel advice for abroad" that Prime Minister Mark Rutte gave at his press conference. After all, the Caribbean parts of the kingdom, he said, do not belong abroad.

Merry X-mas

Bernie Sanders wore mittens and a mask to U.S. President Joe Biden‘s inauguration.

The image instantly became a meme, lifting spirits around the world since it went viral, the meme depicts everything from Sanders’ mittens touching Michelangelo’s Hand of God in the Sistine Chapel, to the Vermont Democrat helping actor Demi Moore mold clay at the pottery wheel from the film “Ghost,” to Sanders drinking tea with Nadiah.

Curfew.

On Saturday 23 January 2021 a night-time curfew came into force throughout the Netherlands.

The day after violent protestors defied curfew. They plundered and molested the city, and clashed with the police.

Valentine’s

You walked
into my life
like you had
always lived
there, like
my heart was
a home built
just for you.

One Year of Covid-19.

On Saturday, February 27 2021, it’s a year since the first case of coronavirus was reported in the Netherlands. The world has changed rapidly since.

Me and Nadiah are still happy and healthy.

Love = Love.

Lesbian love, gay love, bisexual love, transgender love, pansexual love, queer love, asexual love, ….

On March 13th we supported Fleur Pierets with her online activism. LOVE = LOVE is a call to accept all kinds of love and to stop LGTBQA+ violence and discrimination.

NITE’s art delivery service.

We missed the excitement of theatre and desperately needed a weekly dose of coronaproof art and culture. And then -just before total cultural starvation- there was Club Guy and Roni, delivering maximalist, absurdist, over-the-top, ‘who-thought-THIS-up’ performances at our own home!

Jury.

A school in Groningen started a contest for ‘best selfie with a lockdown buddy’. Me & Nadiah were asked to be the jury and to choose the three best submissions. Maximonster helped a bit :)

LEGO.

I’ve always been a sucker for LEGO, but Nadiah didn’t know of its existence at all. Time to get her educated and surprise her with a flower bouquet at the same time :-)

King’s day.

King's Day (or 'Koningsdag' in Dutch) is a national holiday in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It's celebrated on April 27th, the birthday of King Willem-Alexander.

This year's slogan for King's Day in Eindhoven is: "everyone in Eindhoven=KING", so that made me Maxima ;-)

Horror Night.

We saw the horror movie Host by director Rob Savage, which takes place on a screencast of a video call on Zoom, featuring a group of friends who attempt to escape a supernatural force inadvertently spawned during a Zoom séance.

Host was shot over 12 weeks directly on the Zoom software during the COVID-19 pandemic. The cast and crew set up their own cameras, lighting, and stunts.

Me & Nadiah had some fun afterwards ;-)

Corona kilos.

On a sunny day we started fooling around. Who gained the most during lockdown?

Modelling.

Another lockdown hit in, so we found new hobbies. At least Hanneke did.

Nadiah: “Aren’t your ready yet? Posing for you is soooo boring!”

Two years of Covid-19.

February 27th, 2022. This day marks exactly two years of Covid-19 in the Netherlands, and my very first Covid in the body. We stay positive.

In 2023 we decided to make the living together official by placing our names on a plaque next to the front door.

Pride Month.

June, 2024. Pride month. This month we celebrate diversity. And we are proud of who we are. Remember to be yourself. Always. We love the quirks in you!
